Yonac Releases AirVox!

AirVox has arrived! At least it has in the UK anyway. Here's the press release, and there'll be a video soon:

Yonac Releases AirVox, First Touchless Gesture Controlled Music Application
Using cutting-edge Computer Vision technology, Yonac introduces a new way to create art on iOS devices.

Yonac Software is pleased to announce the release of AirVox – Gesture Controlled Music for iOS. AirVox is the first touchless gesture controlled application to employ highly precise Computer Vision technology for mobile devices. Computer Vision is the emerging study of enabling machines to see.
“You don't need a keyboard, fretboard, or touchscreen to make music,” says company founder Jim Yonac. “All you need is your own hands.” These revolutionary control methods, combined with AirVoxʼs ease of use, allow anyone to start making music immediately. The right hand controls the pitch, while the left hand controls the selected sound parameter (such as volume or vibrato rate).

AirVox utilizes the front-facing camera and is only compatible with the iPhone 4, iPad 2, and iPod Touch 4th Gen. It is available now in the iTunes store for $2.99 USD.

Yonac Software was founded in New York City in 2008. The company mainly focuses on the development of innovative music and sound related software. In 2008, Yonac released miniSynth, the very first synthesizer for the iPhone. Yonacʼs other iOS applications include miniSynth PRO, Thereminator, Pitchbot, and miniDrum PRO.

  1. "only compatible with the iPhone 4, iPad 2, and iPod Touch 4th Gen."

    Tut-tut. How elitist! :(

Aw, not to worry, after all that climax, I'm having too much fun with Addictive Synth to really care! :D

It's only compatible with those because they all have the required front cameras.

  4. Very interesting, although it's by no means the first iOS app to employ computer vision in this way, so that description is just a gimmick.

So revolutionary the app Ethero did it last year and Leon Theremin did it about 100 years ago.

I will still give it a try, it looks interesting.

  6. Yet again no demo that a reasonable person can find. What are they afraid of?

  8. Interesting concept, but very hard to control.. low accuracy, after 20 minutes still can't play even a simple melody.
