I won't say that, the computer really doesn't do anything for you except providing you chord references. I agree that most of the time the progression it proposes you isn't groundbreaking, though. But having a range of chords proposed can be helpful even if these mainly produce standard tunes... Exactly why the random chord button can add unexpected fun and, who knows... The ultimate unheard progression!
@swalker133 Doesn't having some keys on a piano painted black to help you, take the fun out of it? Doesn't having the strings of a guitar laid out in a logical way to help you take the fun out it? Doesn't having an arpeggiator on a synth to play the notes for you take the fun out of it? Doesn't using a sequencer take the fun out of it?...
in my opinion coming up with chord progressions is a skill, and if you can just sit there and have a computer give you random ideas until you find a match is no fun, its like cheat codes that help you beat a video game, whats the point if it takes the challenge out of it?...
I understand what swalker means I think a sequencer that just sequences is hard to find ( the europe is one) it gives you nothing to work with I like that. but you can also make presets your own, its only bad when you leave the presets as they are and only use whats given
like the instant photofx apps when people push one button and call it creative but you can use those apps creativly in layering etc
I'm somewhat against these apps, if you're going to write a song, doesn't having a computer do it for you take the fun out of it?...

ReplyDeleteAu contraire, swalker. Inspiration is everything. Hit the random chord button a few times, and if you like something, pick it.
