What apps do you wish weren't abandoned?

Let's face it, some apps do get abandoned. Whether it is because the developer didn't make enough money from the app, or had other priorities or whole host of other reasons.

So which apps do you wish weren't abandonware, and if they weren't, what would you like to see in them?

  1. Soundyeah- the author spoke months ago about development and MORE memory alotment. I really love the concept, the ease of use, the tweakability and the right on graphic interface.

  2. Agree with Brian. SoundYeah has potential.

And I wish Zach Gage would update SynthPond. Maybe add ipad support or different sounds.

  3. I agree, Soundyeah.

  4. Funny, I'd almost forgotten about Synthpond. I also with Randgrid would see an update.

  6. +1 for Randgrid

...but for me JR Hexatone - I want to change the colours of the grid so that I can actually see it!

randgrid is abandoned ( last news from 2009 or so site. full of spam)

pocketsynth ( cant even trace the developer)

    isyn not much activity

NLog the full version (right after i upgraded to it they take it from the store and so stop support)

I really hope Dopplerpad stays alive!

all other ipod apps from developers that only focus on ipAd versions and forget the rest.

and Amidio should abandon their apps or let them be adopted by another developer .

Circuit Synth - I recall even seeing screenshots of an update, before it just seemed to disappear. A lot of potential in that one and a great GUI. Would love to see some kind of development, even a "Circuit Synth 2" or something.

I would love it if Rebirth was ported to OS X . . .

It's a mystery to me why Bhajis Loops never was ported to iOS.

All your apps are destined to being dust.

I used to do a lot of computer graphics work. I would use lots of "plug-ins" in that work. Many of the plug-ins were expensive. Many were from major software companies (that are still in business). Even though many of those plug-ins would still be quite useful, and the host programs they ran in are still around, the plug-ins are almost all now abandoned and not supported. The only way I can get them to work is by running a ten-year-old host program on a ten-year-old computer. Even then the copy-protection often prevents them from working.

Apps inevitably face the same fate as those commercial "plug-ins".

    Enjoy them now.

Going with Eric here, hexatone, I have kept in touch with them about this and they promise me copy paste is coming but.... Nothing..won't buy another app from amidio untill i get some answers from them!
I accept that some apps just get made and forgotten, but be honest about it, and don't take backwards step or run forums etc.
I think sound yeah is great concept but needs a little more work to make it truly great,
and yeah bm1 needed updating, that alone is making me forget bm2, can't be sure it'll get supported...shame.

...seriously, have you been living under a rock on Mars since '98...it's always been available for Mac. it's unusable on iOS. Get technobox

    Dopplerpad...what about some quantization?

Randgrid is a small step away from a portable MachineDrum

Hexatone...JR decided to rip Bebot for the expensive detritus that is MorphWiz. It's a great app that requires/needs development

Soundyeah? where? not in app store. never heard of it...got a link?

bleepBox could do with some updating. I want a portable machinedrum

If any developer want to send me the source code, I'll endeavour to expand some of this stuff

    1. get sourcecode
    2. ???
    3. profit

For me the two that stand out are noise io pro, as i'd like to see it go universal and expand the potential of it with the extra space on ipad. Plus audio copy and paste would be nice too, as it's quite a beast of a synth.

Also ielectribe, as that has become my go to drum synth, would like to see audio copy and paste, some sort of sequencer and external midi control, so I could use it with my daw and get some sweet automation going.

"...seriously, have you been living under a rock on Mars since '98...it's always been available for Mac. it's unusable on iOS. Get technobox"

    1) ReBirth will not run on any Intel Mac, or even a PPC Mac running Leopard.

    2) The iPad version has tremendous reviews. How is it "unusable?" It certainly has a nicer, higher resolution interface than the old PC version...

The lack of midi sync on ielectribe is unforgivable, they say that they want to create replicas of the originals, well midi was standard Korg! Audio copy paste is also pretty much essential and for the price of Korgs apps, pretty lame...

I have a feeling people don't "get" some of the basic principles of dopplerpad, or aren't decent enough musicians to play it. If you want quantization, use the gate. If you want a metronome use the gate.

I'm not a dopplerpad fanboy- I think there are other things about it that need work - like a faster workflow for doing sound design and the ability to save banks of loops independently. Song mode wouldn't hurt either.

Our obsession with chasing the latest cool music toys causes these apps to be abandonned too. It works both ways. How can we expect a developer to continue to support an older app when we customers are constantly distracted by new shiny? The App Store model of free updates for life doesn't help either.

Thanks for the Soundyeah mentions. It seems a great and useful app as it stands, buying now and I hope it will see continued support - latest version Sept 2010 means it isn't too badly abandoned just yet...

iPad only for whoever was asking.

hexatone would have been great to be developed further.

But my all time favorite app is bhajis loops, I agree with jonathan I wish it would have been ported to iOS. I am considering developing an app with similar functionality as the beatslicer portion of bhajis loops... mainly because I really want it for myself and nobody else seems to be doing it.

ielectribe is one of the biggest let down apps ever. I feel in its current condition its a big fat waste of money. Korg needs to add midi, audio copy and paste and song mode... just for starters.

    Intel Mac.

Amps&Cabs was first with an amp sim I think, and even were saying they would make an interface. Last heard from September.
Also all the apps that used to be from "pureprofit" and were taken over by someone else haven't gotten any love from their new owner. BtBx is a great app. Same with their DB-303 app.
    Possibly abandoned, the RjDj apps?
