I know that there are some iPhone 3G users who have upgraded to iOS4 and regretted it. If you want to go back to 3.1.3 then here are some instructions on how to do it.
I haven't tried this out, so I can't comment on whether or not it works. If you try it out then do so at your own peril!
I'm going to repeat myself here :) Its only good if your apps haven't been updated to IOS 4.0 yet. If you're on 3.1.3 you won't be able to use them anymore unless you upgrade again.
ReplyDeleteConcerning updates, I know its still early, but I have a feeling many apps might not ever get upgraded for IOS 4.0. I'm not sure every devs will start updating all their 2 years old apps (the ones that might not have been so popular), and IOS 4.0 did break many apps...
Will we need a 4.0 and another 3.1.3 device in the long run if we want to make sure we can run "legacy" apps?
if you 'restore your device to its original settings' does it roll back to original OS?
ReplyDeletei tried to go back to 3.1.3 because 4 was incredibly slow. i failed and fucked up the device. then reinstalled 4 and suddenly it was as fast as 3.1.3 before. lost my settings though but now i am happy.
ReplyDelete@johnnyg0 -- That's not entirely true across the board. Before I was finally able to upgrade my 3G to iOS4, several of my apps had been updated and they still worked. Most of them appear to be simply optimized for the high-resolution screen, and not a single app (out of about 10 or so) that was updated flat-out stopped working.
ReplyDeleteAfter I upgraded, I followed the advice of a couple message boards and did a "double hard reset" which appeared to bring the speed back to pre-upgrade levels. Hold the on/off key and the home key down simultaneously until the "slide to power off" screen comes up, then continue holding them until the screen goes black and the Apple logo comes back on. After the phone restarts, do it again. It's helped me.
