Whats the mixer? Do you use any effects units? I recently got a digitech RP55 multi-effects processor (you could probably pick one up new for less than 50 pounds) that I run my ipod touch through and its made a huge difference to the range of sounds I can generate. It's also given me an excuse to start building more effects myself. I found a great source of effect pedal housings is to be found in second hand stores that sell old computer games peripherals - the foot pedals for racing games make great wah-wah units!
